As a cool neighbourhood, brunch is considered the most important meal of the day, you can find some wine cellars around the area and lots of casual tapas bars in every corner. Sant Antoni combines its relaxed residential feel with a central location and proximity to the city's most popular spots, what makes your accommodation in the area important to consider.
In the center of the neighbourhood, we can admire the famous marketplace of the same name, designed by Antoni Rovira i Trias and built between 1872 and 1882 (in restoration at the moment, will open its doors in April). Sant Antoni market is one of the oldest and most popular in the city, especially for the secondhand book stalls that surround the building Sunday mornings.
Where to eat
The best thing to highlight in Sant Antoni neighbourhood is the plenty places it has to go for a vermut, brunch, lunch, snack or to have a drink.
Located next to Plaça Universitat, Bakery Mistral is a classic in Barcelona. Open since 1977 is well known for their mini croissants baked in its wood-fired oven, they are delicious and you can choose among their different flavours. If you are searching for a nice place for brunch in the area, La Federal can be interesting, it has a wonderful terrace on top surrounded by plants. It's highly recommended for vegetarians and gluten intolerants. This one is located at the corner between Comte Borrell and Parlament street, where you can also find Els Sortidors del Parlament, offering a wide variety of delicious tapas along with a wide variety of wines.
Actually, Parlament street is full of nice places to eat, one of our favourites is Bar Calders, always crowded, mixes up mexican food with spanish offering a perfect combination. Its highlights are their nachos, their croquettes and the famous bravas. Nearby you can find El dinàmic de bcn, located in an old vehicle repair shop, beautiful restore with a high ceiling and a vegetal garden inside where you can enjoy a vermouth and eat some tapas.
If you prefer natural juices, cupcakes and home-baked cakes, also in Parlament street you have plenty of places to enjoy an afternoon snack as the charming Cafè Cometa or Tarannà.
El Mama & La Papa is perfect to end the day in the area having a drink, it is a mix between restaurant, cocktail and cabaret place.
